10 Year Old Not Gonna Wear A Dixie Bikini

My 10 year old daughter went shopping with friends the other day. Normally she likes to keep her body covered completely up. You can imagine my surprise today when she came waltzing out of her room in one of those Dixie bikini tops. I told that child to march herself back into her room and put on something respectable. Of course, she whined that I didn’t understand and that all the other girl’s moms let them wear them. Like that made a difference? I don’t think so.

The “Honeymooners” was a favorite show of ours as kids. We got a kick out of Ralph Cramden inevitably saying “One of these days, Alice, to the Moon!” and other one-liners. Many of these have even become a part of our “vocabulary” even today, many years later.But there was one episode in particular that sticks with me. It’s the one where Alice puts a dish of leftover dog food in the refrigerator and then Ralph “discovers” it and thinks it’s an appetizer of some sort for human consumption. He gently tastes a little of it, then eats more, falls in love with it, and he’s figuring that this “recipe” of Alice’s will undoubtedly be worth a lot of money once it’s marketed and distributed. This was believed to be some kind of expensive-tasting ‘pate’ by Ralph and his buddy, Norton.Of course after Alice informs Ralph it’s only leftover dog food that she had put in the refrigerator and then seeing the look on his face as it dawns on him that he ate a bunch of this stuff is priceless!This is a good reminder to always put leftovers of canned dog food into a specially marked container so nothing like this could ever happen.
